Hobby Breeder of the Lady Gouldian Finch
|
1. When you find the bird you are interested in. Do
your research!
2. It is best to purchase a young, hand-fed parrot
from a breeder. Unless you are experienced at hand
feeding it is best to buy one which is independent of
its parent or the breeder.
3. Some parrots have special requirements such as
food or housing, again..do your research.
4. When you visit the breeder inspect the living
conditions of the bird. If the cages are dirty or poorly
maintained then it shows poor management of their
birds and that could lead to bad health.
5. Know the tell-tell signs on the condition of the bird,
or ask for a certificate by a veterinarian so that you
know you have a healthy pet bird. The parrots eyes
should be clear and not showing any discharge. The
feathers should be tight and clean. The flesh on both
sides of the breastbone should be plump but not
protruding.
6. Check for leg mites or leg scales that could lead to
leg mites. Check the vent for cleanliness and also
should be 2 toes facing forward and 2 backwards.
