Lady Gouldian Finch love Millet

I was introduced to the Lady Gouldian finch by a good friend that gave me a gift of
two male Gouldian Finches and within a very short time …I was hooked!   I hit the
Internet looking for a breeder so I could purchase two females. Finding someone
within a reasonable distance from me  turned out to be more difficult than I thought.
I don't give up easy and finally I found  CRfinches in Montgomery Alabama...they had
two female gouldians.  One white .. "Wow that is one expensive bird"…and the other
a red head, white breasted green back. They were just beautiful and I had to have
them even though it took my entire budget. I had been gathering information on the
care of a lady gouldian finch on the web and even though almost all said that they
were difficult for a novice I jumped in with both feet.

First I purchased a large gouldian finch flight cage and put all four of my gouldians in
so they could get to know each other. Everything was going great until another friend
gave me two zebra finches. The book we read said that zebra finches could be put
with gouldians so we put them all together.  After a short time I began to panic…My
male Gouldian began to show signs of severe stress. I talked with Laraine at
ladygouldianfinch.com and she told me to get the zebra finches out of the cage right
away and told me what to do about caring for my Gouldian.   I have to give my
success with my new hobby to Laraine. Her skillful advice and guidance was a great
comfort while I was learning how to properly care for my Lady Gouldians.

They are doing great now…singing, chirping and flying all around their cage. I
purchased two 40”X20” cages and put the Gouldian Finch males in one and the Lady
    Gouldian hens in the other.

Last week they acted like they wanted to be together so I have paired the redhead
Lady Gouldian Hen with the red head Gouldian Cock. They have five eggs today and I
can hardly wait to see what kind of parents they will be....

My Gouldians have brought me so much pleasure,
I hope you will love your new hobby as much as I do.
I am a  hobby breeder sharing my experience and basic information to persons starting a new hobby
of raising The Lady Gouldian Finch.
Tips
1. Do not just use dowels as perches, it is best to use a perch with different widths so
that your finches feet do not get sore.

2. Gouldian finches are social birds and should be kept in one or more pairs.

3. Gouldians do not like to be petted or held so if you are seeking a bird that enjoys
being held you should probably  away from the Lady Gouldian finch.

4. Provide products necessary to maintain proper health for Lady Gouldians.

5. Do your homework and learn all you can about this wonderful hobby.

6. Purchase your Gouldian from a breeder and not from a pet store where they are
exposed to many different birds
